This is a policy on skyHow. Everyone is encouraged to follow these policies. 

== Scope ==
How-to articles as well as quizzes belong on skyHow, like wikiHow, as long as it follows the [[meta:Content Policy|SkyWiki's content policy]]. This includes, but not limited to:
* Respecting the U.S. law
* Pornography or sexual content are prohibited
** While wikiHow contains some articles about sex, skyHow doesn't.
* Commercial activity not allowed

== Manual of style ==
Users are encouraged, while not required, to follow the manual of style for both how-to articles and quizzes. The following structure is the basis for every how-to article.

Although skyHow is similar to wikiHow in scope, again, please '''do not copy''' content from wikiHow without permission. The [[wikihow:wikiHow:Terms-of-Use#User-Content-License-Grants|wikiHow's User Content License Grants]] states:<ref>https://www.wikihow.com/wikiHow:Terms-of-Use</ref>

It is OK to copy content from other sites, as long as it is public domain or licensed under CC0, CC BY or CC BY-SA. For the latter two, you need to attribute the users and provide the link back to the original page.

We want skyHow to redistribute the contents for both personal and commercial usage, so it's not allowed to copy content from websites that prohibits reuse commercially outside these websites.

The exception is the pages from other sites being authored/contributed solely by the same user who also cross-posted here.

== Naming ==
For how-to articles, the title of a page should contain a verb at the start. "How to" is added automatically at the start and doesn't need to be included at start of title.

For quizzes, the title of a page should start with "Quiz:".

== Uploading policy ==
You can upload any files, such as images, provided it:
* has a free license (public domain, CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA), from free stock photo galleries, or is AI generated.
** For tech articles that use proprietary software, you can upload as fair use, as well, provided you take the screenshots yourself.
* follows the [[meta:Content Policy|SkyWiki's content policy]].

=== AI-generated images ===
AI-generated images are permitted on skyHow, since these are public domain in most countries and have no ownership. skyHow is hosted by SkyWiki, which is in the United States, so AI-generated images are in the public domain in that country. However, there are some things to consider:
* Only high-quality AI-generated images are allowed (DALL-E 3, Imagen 3 or equivalent minimum, 4o image generation or equivalent recommended).
* When uploading AI-generated images, the description should have a prompt and the LLM generated by.
* Do not use AI-generated images in articles that mainly target British demographic, since these images are copyrighted in the United Kingdom for 50 years.

== Blocking policy ==
Administrators should block users and IP addresses who engage in vandalism, spam, disruptive editing, personal attacks, or abuse of multiple accounts (sockpuppetry). They should block users who are found to be underage (i.e. under 13 years old) for the duration until the users reach 13 years old.

For user(s) and/or IP address(es) engaging in vandalism, spam, disruptive editing or personal attacks, administrators or trustworthy users should first send a warning to the affected user(s) and/or IP address(es), but if they persist, administrators should block them.

The blocking duration is based on severity and how many times the user/IP got blocked. As a general rule of thumb, on the first block, the duration should be between 1 and 7 days, but can be longer on subsequent blocks. Indefinite blocks should only be applied if the user is previously blocked multiple times and/or is clearly a vandalism/disruption-only account.

Users who are abusing multiple accounts may be indefinitely blocked by administrators. Any trustworthy user can request a CheckUser request on [[meta:Steward requests|Steward requests on SkyMeta]]. Stewards will look at the IP address(es) involved in multiple account abuse and should be blocked.

Adminstrators should not block IP address indefinitely; these (who are disruptive) should be blocked for a maximum of 6 months, unless it is an open proxy, which should be blocked for up to 3 years.

== Protection policy ==
Some pages on skyHow are protected to prevent vandalism or spam, and for legal and security reasons.

All pages in the MediaWiki namespace are protected to interface administrators for security reasons.

Examples of pages to be semi-protected:
* Pages or files that have repeatedly vandalised or otherwise used for disruptive actions (temporary)
* Pages, with names that fit in our scope, that have inappropriately created and deleted repeatedly (temporary)
* Templates and modules with more than 500 transclusions (indefinite)
Examples of pages to be protected to administrators only:
* High-traffic policies
* Templates and modules with more than 5,000 transclusions
* Files that are used in system messages (move and upload only)
* Inappropriate pages repeatedly created and deleted
